Today’s reading can seem to get into the mundane order of the Law. While Exodus 21-24 begins the outlay of the entire law it holds some interesting ideas. Some have tried to use Exodus 21 as a means to support slavery. I think God knew the weakness of man and that slavery would happen, but actually God was giving dignity to the slave. Slavery in this time was for economic reasons and not because of one’s race. I know that when God gave these laws he saw specific instances where they would need to be applied. These laws are incredibly situational. It just shows that God saw the need for this kind of law. In each situation, God wants to make the wrong to be right. Ultimately in Jesus God is setting everything that is wrong to be right.
