What a powerful opening section to this last of the Torah (the first 5 books of the Old Testament). Moses describes what the people have been through up to this point. You can hear the anguish in his own life over not being allowed to enter the land. He describes a very simple set of laws and then gives them an if/then statement. If the people will follow God and not serve or make any other gods, then he will give them all the land and prosper them. But, if they choose to serve or make other gods and disobey the one true God then he will scatter them abroad and destroy them. It is VERY clear. He leaves open the possibility that even after he has scattered the people they might return to Him if they would only seek Him. God knew the story before the foundation of the world. He knows your story too. Will you choose to follow Him today or serve some other god in your life?
